4 steps on planning your city break effectively
We’ve probably all done it – a gap in the diary for the weekend break is cleared, travel arrangements made, accommodation booked. All good…….then before you know it that weekend has arrived. Of course, it’s nice to take the sights in, have a leisurely stroll and window shop but here’s a few suggestions to make that weekend break more effective:-
1. Build the trip around at least one activity
Whether it’s the theatre, museum, zoo (or a food tour!) it’s important to consider what you want out of the trip and have a focus/plan. Look at tourist websites such as www.visitcheshire.com for ideas
Obviously, by booking a guided tour experience for your first evening/day of arrival, this will allow you to ‘live like a local’ and then utilise knowledge gained to ensure you maximise time spent during the rest of your trip.
2. Take a peek at TripAdvisor
This is the ‘go to’ site for finding out which attractions are best rated by other travellers and often enables the discovery of a ‘hidden gem’
3. Ask for recommendations
Speak to friends, family, work colleagues and get them to share their experiences.
4. As soon as you arrive, visit The Visitor Information Centre
This is a must. The staff will be able to highlight local events and what’s going on during your stay, maybe even give discount on some attractions – essential to ensure you don’t miss out!
