If you join a Taste of Chester Food Walking Tour you get to meet so many fab independents – 7 in fact! They include Simon Parkinson – owner of Vinological.  We recently spoke to him to get some insight into his business and thoughts on the Chester food/drink scene.

Tell us about you and your business

‘Vinological is an independent wine shop and wine bar specialising in Eastern European wine, Vegan wine and Organic wine. I have enjoyed over a decade of working in the wine trade/industry and of course have a passion and interest in different types of wine’.

What you enjoy most about running your business

‘I love running my own business, I love taking my passion for wine and passing that on to my customers.  It is nice to be able to make decisions that have an impact on the direction a business goes. At Vinological customers can try fantastic quality wine that doesn’t break the bank. They can also enjoy perfectly matched snacks like charcuterie and cheese’.

Your thoughts on the local independent food/drink scene

‘Pre-Covid19, the independent food and drink scene in Chester was epic, one of the be best in the UK. We have a huge range of small independent businesses offering an incredible range of styles, Mexican, Italian, French, American, German, Polish, Turkish, just to name a few. We have several awesome wine bars, tap rooms, pubs. I love Chester and its Indie F&D scene, I wouldn’t want to have my business anywhere else!’

Your customers’ favourite drink/bottle

‘Our beautiful Romanian Fizz, Rhein Extra Brut imperial is a real customer favourite, we sell it by the bottle and the case’.
